The public is being invited to engage in a consultation regarding proposed minimum wage increases for the upcoming fiscal periods of 2025/26 through 2027/28. This initiative seeks community input on various wage trajectory options that have been outlined.
A public meeting is scheduled to take place on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at 19:00 at the Museum in Jamestown. Additionally, there will be a consultation stall outside the Canister on both Thursday, January 16 and Friday, January 17 from noon until 14:00.
For those interested in a more personal discussion, Ann Muir, Head of Strategic Policy, is available for one-on-one sessions. She can be contacted at the Castle via phone number 22470.
Three options have been proposed for consideration:
Option 1 proposes an hourly rate starting at £4.33 in 2025/26 with an annual salary of £8,443.50. The hourly rate would rise to £4.66 in 2026/27 with an annual salary of £9,087.00 and reach £5.00 by 2027/28 with an annual salary of £9,750.00.
Option 2 suggests beginning with a higher hourly rate of £4.50 in 2025/26 and an annual salary of £8,775.00. Increases are planned to bring the hourly rate to £5.00 in 2026/27 and £5.50 by the end of the period in 2027/28.
Option 3 outlines an initial hourly rate matching Option 2 at £4.50 for the first year but suggests more substantial increases over time, reaching £5.20 in the second year and culminating at £6.00 per hour by the third year with an annual salary of £11,700.
