President Adama Barrow welcomed a special envoy from Algeria at the State House in Banjul on January 6, 2025. The envoy brought messages of goodwill and cooperation from Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune.
The delegation was led by H.E. Madam Selma Bahte Mansouri, who conveyed President Tebboune's commitment to strengthening ties with The Gambia in areas such as education, health, capacity building, and trade. The delegation also included the Algerian Ambassador to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, H.E. Mrs. Selma Malika Haddadi, and a representative from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
During the meeting, President Barrow emphasized the importance of intra-African trade for achieving African integration. "We cannot have African integration if Africa is not trading within," he stated. He further highlighted that stability is crucial for a country's progress and recognized the potential for enhanced cooperation between The Gambia and Algeria through trade.
Dr. Mamadou Tangara, Minister for Foreign Affairs of The Gambia, along with his Permanent Secretary Lang Yarboe, accompanied the Algerian special envoy during their visit to the State House.
