President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., urged for peace and unity during the official funeral service of former Vice-President John Dakana Gray. The ceremony took place on December 19, 2024, at Effort Baptist Church in Paynesville City, Montserrado County.

In his address, President Boakai praised Honorable Gray's dedication to Liberia's youth education and empowerment. He emphasized Gray's commitment to national peace and stability during challenging times as a testament to his patriotism.

“Honorable Gray was more than a public servant; he was a pillar of peace and stability. Even during the darkest days of Liberia’s civil conflict, he stood firm in his commitment to protecting lives and preserving the nation’s integrity,” stated President Boakai.

The President expressed condolences to Gray's family, encouraging them to find solace in faith. He thanked Grand Cape Mount County residents for organizing a dignified farewell for Gray, who served with honor and humility.

Gray's legacy includes serving as Vice President under interim President Moses Z. Blah during Liberia’s civil war. As the nation mourns his passing, President Boakai called on citizens to work together for Liberia's development.

“Let this moment remind us of the importance of unity and collective responsibility as we strive to build a Liberia that honors the sacrifices of those who came before us,” he exhorted.
