FAO officials visit Burkina Faso to promote small-scale irrigation

Representatives from the United Nations' Food and Agricultural Organization's (FAO) Agricultural Water for Africa program recently visited the AU-SAFGRAD office in Ouagadougou,

AU-SAFGRAD is the African Union's division for promoting rural sustainability through AU countries.

The FAO delegation was focused on supporting the development and implementation of small irrigation systems. The group spoke on the importance of efficient water use, particularly in the driest parts of Africa, and promoted a digital platform for quantifying and sharing information on agricultural water use issues with policymakers across the continent.

The visit ended with the group agreeing to work toward a set of policy goals for supporting small-scale irrigation and efficient water use that could be presented to political and agricultural leaders.

The visiting delegation consisted of the technical adviser for the Land and Water Division of FAO-Rome Maher Salman, coordinator of Agriculture Water for Africa at FAO's Addis Adaba office Fethi Lebdi, and resident engineer at FAO-Ouagadougou Moussa Konate.
