World Bank official visits Burkina Faso

To increase awareness about the World Bank's services, the bank's vice president for the African region, Makhtar Diop, traveled to Burkina Faso Monday.

Burkina Faso has been a member of the World Bank Group since 1963. Presently, there are 16 national projects underway in the nation sponsored by the World Bank. These projects carry a total investment of about $1,047.69 million; the eight regional World Bank projects underway in Burkina Faso represent a $176.8 million investment.

Diop's discussions with officials and Burkinabes covered a number of topics, including ways the World Bank could help the nation with its economic and social development goals.

While in Burkina Faso, Diop met with the nation's president, Roch Marc Christian Kaboré, Prime Minister Paul Kaba Thiéba and National Assembly President Salifou Diallo.

The World Bank intends to enhance relations with Burkina Faso through a Country Partnership Framework initiative.

Diop will remain in the West African nation until Wednesday.
