USAID names new mission director in Ghana

The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) appointed Andrew Karas as their new mission director in Ghana Oct. 23.

Working closely with the government of Ghana to help establish its middle class, Karas will be responsible for USAID's agriculture, governance, economic growth, education and health programs in Ghana.  .

Previously to his new role, Karas served as USAID's deputy mission director in Ghana since December 2012 and began serving as the acting mission director in March. He has three decades of development experience, joining the U.S. Foreign Service in 2000 and performing assignments in Rwanda, Kenya, Afghanistan and Djibouti.

Karas has also worked with international and local development organizations in Rwanda and Kenya and managed community-based assistance programming for low-income and homeless populations in New York City.
