The West African Power Pool (WAPP) has announced the 19th session of its General Assembly, scheduled from November 25 to 29, 2024. The event will be held at the Radisson Blu Hotel in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. Organized in collaboration with CI-ENERGIES, this assembly aims to gather key stakeholders from the energy sector across West Africa to discuss progress and challenges related to the regional electricity market.

This year’s theme is “Advancing the Regional Electricity Market: Overcoming Barriers and Building a Resilient Competitive Power Market.” It highlights the importance of regional cooperation for achieving energy security and sustainable economic growth in West Africa.

The WAPP General Assembly serves as a platform to highlight progress towards creating an integrated and efficient regional electricity market. It also aims to identify challenges such as technical constraints, regulatory inconsistencies, infrastructure gaps, and political barriers that hinder full integration. The assembly will focus on defining strategies to overcome these barriers and strengthen collaboration among member states, regional institutions, and international partners.

The agenda includes several sessions and events:

– A joint meeting of WAPP committees will present activity reports and finalize a consolidated report.
– The WAPP Executive Board meeting will make strategic decisions about the organization’s future.
– The 43rd Coordination Meeting of WAPP Technical and Financial Partners will evaluate progress on projects and explore investment opportunities.
– The highlight is the 19th session of the WAPP General Assembly featuring high-level speeches, confirmation of WAPP’s new Secretary General, adoption of key resolutions, and strategic discussions on the future of the regional electricity market.

This assembly is crucial for those interested in West Africa’s energy sector development. Participants can network with industry experts, share knowledge, and contribute to shaping the future of the regional electricity market.
