The 12th Ordinary Session of the Technical Committee of Experts (TCE) under the Permanent Coordination and Monitoring Framework (PCMF) for Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) took place on July 9, 2025, in Dakar, Senegal.

The meeting was chaired by Mr Baboucar Mboundar Ngom, Secretary General of the Ministry of Hydraulics and Sanitation of Senegal. It brought together national IWRM focal points, representatives from basin organizations, regional and international institutions, as well as members from ECOWAS.

The main objective was to review progress since the Abuja conference held in June 2024 and enhance experts’ capacity in programming and preparing investment projects. The focus included integrating climate finance mechanisms into these efforts.

Participants discussed several topics: implementation status of resolutions from the Ministerial Committee for Monitoring IWRM; the 2025 work programme for CGRE; major regional initiatives such as the Special Project for Drinking Water Supply; activities related to the Regional Water Observatory and West African Regional Water Forum; actions within the framework of the Water-Energy-Food-Environment Nexus; and strategies for involving young people through scientific innovation on water issues.

The session aimed to reinforce regional cooperation by sharing successful experiences and exploring new avenues for collaboration on water-related challenges across West Africa.

At the closing session, which was led by a representative from Senegal’s Ministry of Hydraulics and Sanitation, participants were commended: “praised the quality of the discussions and the participants’ commitment to working towards sustainable and integrated water resource management in the region.”
