The Federal Ministry of Finance, Budget and National Planning has introduced a new fleet of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses for staff use. The commissioning took place at a staff engagement forum in Abuja, where the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, highlighted the importance of supporting ministry personnel to advance Nigeria’s economic reforms.
Edun stated, “This Ministry is the engine room of national transformation and that engine must be well‑fuelled.” He explained that these CNG buses were received through the Presidential Initiative on CNG. According to Edun, this initiative aims both to improve transportation for ministry employees and to help Nigeria shift toward cleaner and more cost-effective energy sources. The program also aligns with broader goals such as fiscal responsibility, operational transparency, and environmental sustainability within government agencies.
At the event, Ismaeel Ahmed, Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on CNG, reiterated that their mission is “to mainstream cleaner transport across government institutions and stimulate local industrial value chains.” This approach is expected to encourage further investment in sustainable infrastructure while promoting local industry participation.
In addition to launching the new buses, Edun announced the reintroduction of monthly welfare provisions for staff members. He described this as a step intended “at fostering morale and stability as the Ministry leads the charge on macroeconomic reform, treasury digitalisation, and enhanced service delivery.”
Permanent Secretary Lydia Shehu Jafiya commended Edun’s leadership during her opening remarks. She called on staff members to uphold professionalism and discipline as part of their role in maintaining Nigeria’s economic stability.
The Ministry stressed that strong internal cooperation will be essential as it works toward restoring investor confidence and promoting market growth in line with ongoing national reforms.
