Guinea’s recent elections ran smoothly, partly thanks to European digital security company Gemalto, which was hired by Guinea’s National Independent Electoral Commission (CENI) to modernize the nation’s voter-registration system.
“CENI put their trust in Gemalto to work as both a solution and service provider, responsible for operating the entire enrollment process in a 45-day critical timeline,” CENI President Bakary Fofana said.
Election officials utilized the company’s Coesys Mobile Enrollment station, a portable biometric citizen-registration kit. This allowed millions of Guinean voters to register to vote ahead of time. Thousands of trainers assisted voters throughout the nation, even in remote areas.
The system used an Automatic Fingerprint Identification System (AFIS) to verify the identity of voters.
“Gemalto brought a high level of service for the management and perfect execution of this important project for Guinea’s future,” Frédéric Trojani, executive vice president of government programs at Gemalto, said.
