This event is part of the island’s ongoing efforts to promote awareness for White Ribbon Day, an international campaign focused on ending violence against women and girls.
Community members are invited to attend the vigil and light a candle to remember those affected by domestic violence, demonstrating solidarity and commitment to eradicating such violence. White Ribbon Day originated in Canada in 1991 when a group of men decided to confront violence towards women. It has since expanded into a global initiative, observed in various countries. St Helena’s candlelit vigil is a part of this worldwide effort advocating for change and equality.
