Every year on November 23, the Royal College of Nursing (RCN) observes Nursing Support Workers’ Day. This day is set aside to acknowledge the essential contributions made by nursing support workers in patient care across health and social care environments.

In 2024, the St Helena Government’s Health & Social Care Portfolio is highlighting the dedication and hard work of Health Care Assistants (HCAs) and Emergency Care Assistants (ECAs). These professionals work closely with qualified nurses, playing a vital role in delivering quality care to patients. They are recognized for their compassion and commitment to exceeding their responsibilities.

“HCAs and ECAs work alongside qualified nurses. They play a crucial role in providing excellent care to patients, demonstrating compassion, and going above and beyond their call of duty.”
