His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone has arrived in Abuja, Nigeria, as part of his administration’s efforts to advance agricultural development and food security. He was welcomed at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport by Dr. Julius F. Sandy, Sierra Leone’s High Commissioner to Nigeria, along with officials from the Federal Ministry of Foreign Affairs and staff from the Sierra Leone High Commission.

President Bio’s visit is a result of an invitation from the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) in Ibadan, Nigeria. This trip highlights his commitment to enhancing food security through the “Feed Salone” initiative.

During his stay, President Bio met with Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. Their discussions focused on strengthening bilateral relations in agriculture, trade, and investment. President Tinubu reiterated Nigeria’s support for Sierra Leone’s development efforts and stressed the importance of regional cooperation for achieving food security and economic growth.

While in Nigeria, President Bio will engage with IITA to explore innovative strategies for boosting agricultural productivity. By learning from IITA’s successful models, he aims to adopt practices that empower local farmers and improve crop yields in Sierra Leone.

This collaboration could transform Sierra Leone’s agricultural sector by fostering economic growth and combating hunger and poverty. President Bio emphasizes research-driven solutions for sustainable agriculture and seeks strong partnerships with key stakeholders to further the goals of “Feed Salone.”
