The President of the ECOWAS Bank for Investment and Development (EBID), Dr. George Agyekum Donkor, visited Sierra Leone’s President Julius Maada Bio at his state house office in Freetown on July 15, 2025. During the visit, Dr. Donkor praised the macroeconomic indicators of Sierra Leone, stating they reflect positively on President Bio’s government.
Dr. Donkor congratulated President Bio on his recent appointment as chairperson of the ECOWAS Authority and assured him of the bank’s commitment to supporting his tenure. He noted that since arriving in Sierra Leone, he has met with key ministers to discuss potential investments in roads, tourism, infrastructure, and education.
The Chief Minister of Sierra Leone, Dr. David Moinina Sengeh, introduced the delegation to President Bio and explained that their visit was based on a prior engagement between the bank president and President Bio.
President Bio expressed gratitude for the visit and emphasized the importance of regional economic integration for West Africa. He highlighted several priorities for collaboration with EBID, including developing both physical and digital infrastructure as well as ecotourism.
Dr. Donkor also requested President Bio’s assistance in maintaining EBID’s status as a non-political entity within the sub-region to enhance its ability to undertake development projects.
