Sierra Leone’s President attends World Without Hunger Conference in Ethiopia

His Excellency President Julius Maada Bio of Sierra Leone has arrived in Ethiopia to participate as a special guest and speaker at the World Without Hunger Conference. The event is scheduled from November 5-7, 2024, in Addis Ababa. Co-hosted by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), the African Union Commission, and the Ethiopian Government, this conference aims to address global hunger and food security challenges.

The gathering will include heads of state and government, ministers, UN representatives, private sector leaders, and civil society organizations. These participants are focused on developing innovative strategies to combat hunger and strengthen food systems. Discussions will be supported technically by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations. Key topics will include boosting domestic food production, enhancing irrigation systems, improving rural infrastructure, advancing livestock development, increasing value-added agricultural practices, establishing social safety nets, and ensuring effective disaster response.

President Bio’s participation in the High-level Political Forum emphasizes Sierra Leone’s efforts to improve food security and its commitment to eradicating hunger globally. He is expected to share insights from Sierra Leone’s experiences with policies aimed at increasing agricultural productivity, empowering rural economies, and promoting sustainable farming practices that ensure food availability for all citizens.

His involvement underscores Sierra Leone’s dedication to fostering global prosperity and resilience. President Bio is anticipated to engage in strategic dialogues with world leaders, stakeholders, and development partners to reinforce collaborations aimed at advancing food security and nutritional health across Africa.

On November 6th, President Bio met with Ethiopian Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed on the sidelines of the conference for a constructive discussion.
