His Excellency President Dr. Julius Maada Bio participated in the Eid-Ul-Adha prayer, joining Muslims across Sierra Leone and globally in observing one of Islam’s most sacred festivals. The event took place at the Presidential Lodge in Freetown on Friday, June 6, 2025.
Sheikh Umar Chernoh Bangura delivered the Eid sermon, focusing on obedience and devotion to God. He referenced Prophet Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son as a demonstration of faith. Sheikh Bangura encouraged Muslims with means to sacrifice livestock as a symbol of their faith.
The Imam also highlighted integrity and anti-corruption efforts, praising President Bio’s administration for its transparent handling of this year’s Hajj process. He noted improvements under President Bio’s leadership regarding past issues related to the Hajj and the “Haja and Alhaji Youyi Building” saga. “The Muslim community must recognize and appreciate the President’s sincere commitment to our faith and people,” he stated.
President Bio expressed gratitude to the Muslim community for attending the occasion at the Presidential Lodge. “Today, we thank God for the gift of life and the opportunity to worship together,” he said. He also prayed for those embarking on Hajj, wishing them protection and safe return.
Reflecting on Sheikh Bangura’s sermon, President Bio reaffirmed his government’s dedication to transparency, accountability, and service. “The message today is one of dedication to duty and nation,” he commented while commending the Hajj Committee’s work as reflective of his administration’s values.
He concluded with a prayer for peace, unity, and blessings upon Sierra Leone: “May today’s prayer bring lasting peace and prosperity to our beloved nation. Salamu alaikum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh.”
