Qatar’s Minister of Labor, Dr. Ali Bin Sammikh Marri, visited Sierra Leone to meet with President Julius Maada Bio at State House in Freetown. The visit aimed to strengthen bilateral cooperation between the two countries, focusing on labor and employment sectors.

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Labor and Employment, Mr. Mohamed Rahman Swaray, introduced the Qatari delegation. He emphasized the goal of exploring collaboration between their respective labor ministries.

Dr. Marri expressed gratitude for the warm reception from President Bio and recalled his academic studies on Sierra Leone over 30 years ago. “It is a pleasure to be in Sierra Leone,” he said. “Over 30 years ago, as a student, I was asked to write about Sierra Leone.”

Dr. Marri conveyed congratulations from the Emir of Qatar, His Highness Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, regarding President Bio’s election as Chairman of ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government.

President Bio appreciated the visit and noted it was significant that Dr. Marri had studied Sierra Leone decades earlier. “Thank you very much for visiting,” President Bio said.

The discussion included potential areas for cooperation such as agriculture, education, and digital economy development in Sierra Leone.

“It is an exciting moment to lead ECOWAS,” President Bio remarked on leveraging international partnerships for regional interests.
