President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. will host a Farewell Program this Friday to conclude the 2025/2026 Diaspora Annual Return (DAR) initiative. The event is set for January 9, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. on the grounds of the Executive Mansion in Monrovia.

The DAR has brought together Liberians from abroad, African Americans, and friends of Liberia for several weeks of cultural exchange and engagement. Activities included cultural immersion experiences, national policy discussions, investment talks, and community service projects throughout Liberia.

The upcoming Farewell Event aims to provide an opportunity for appreciation and reflection on the achievements of this year’s program. It also seeks to strengthen ties between Liberia and its global Diaspora community. The Office of the President is organizing the event through the Office of Diaspora Affairs in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Participants will include returning members of the Diaspora, senior government officials, development partners, traditional leaders, private sector representatives, and members of the diplomatic corps. Program highlights feature special remarks from government officials and reflections on DAR’s impact during 2025. There will also be recognition for contributions made by members of the Diaspora to Liberia’s national development.

According to organizers: “Special remarks from senior government officials,” “Reflections on the achievements and impact of the Diaspora Annual Return 2025,” “Recognition of Diaspora contributions to national development,” “A renewed expression of support for continued Diaspora engagement, investment, and inclusion,” as well as “Special Remarks by the President” are planned for the occasion.

Since it began, DAR has become a key platform promoting unity and economic collaboration among Liberians at home and abroad. Organizers state that it reinforces “the role of the Liberian Diaspora as an essential partner in the country’s development efforts.”

They add that this Farewell Program is not just about departure but serves as a call for ongoing partnership beyond seasonal festivities.
