President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has provided emergency assistance to three families affected by a recent fire at the Edward B. Kesselly (E.B.K.) Military Barracks in Liberia. The aid included US$5,000 and ten bags of rice for each family.
The relief was delivered on February 5, 2026, in Schiefflin Township, Margibi County, where the families are currently staying after losing their homes and belongings in the fire that occurred on February 1 due to an electrical malfunction.
President Boakai addressed the victims directly and acknowledged the service of soldiers to Liberia. “Because you serve the country and make sacrifices, our job is to ensure that we make things convenient for you,” he said.
He also spoke about ongoing efforts to renovate the E.B.K. Military Barracks as part of a broader commitment to improve living conditions for military personnel. “That is why we started renovating the Camp, to ensure that your lives not only safe but also comfortable,” President Boakai stated.
When asked about issues related to the 72nd Barracks and land encroachment by private citizens, President Boakai emphasized adherence to legal processes and fairness. He noted that any disputes over boundaries should be resolved through lawful means and underlined: “We will ensure that the army does not infringe on anybody’s rights.”
The President concluded his remarks by reaffirming his administration’s commitment to fostering respectful relations between civilians and military members based on law, mutual respect, and national unity.
