President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. has nominated J. Cyrus Saygbe, Sr. as the Director General of the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA). Saygbe has held the position in an acting capacity since May 2025, following the suspension of former director Ms. Emma Glasco.

In a statement about the nomination, President Boakai said: “Mr. Saygbe’s leadership and experience will further consolidate the gains made in the sector, enhance productivity, and contribute to national economic development.”

The President also called on stakeholders in the industry to support Saygbe if he is confirmed by the Liberian Senate. He added that the government remains committed to prioritizing sustainable management and growth of Liberia’s aquatic resources.

Saygbe’s appointment will take effect upon confirmation by the Senate.
