President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. met with a delegation from Transco CLSG at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia to discuss Liberia’s role in the regional electricity transmission initiative that connects Côte d’Ivoire, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Guinea. The Transco CLSG project was created by a treaty among these four West African countries to finance, construct, own, and operate a high-voltage transmission line for an integrated regional power grid.
The delegation was led by Jiba Yilla, Acting General Manager of Transco CLSG, and included Mohammed Sherif, Managing Director of the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC). The group visited President Boakai after returning from engagements in neighboring countries involved in the project.
During the meeting, Mr. Yilla commended Liberia’s involvement with the CLSG project. He stated that Liberia is considered the “best customer” within the framework and described it as a success story for regional cooperation. According to Mr. Yilla, “the Government, through the LEC, has demonstrated consistent progress and reliability in its partnership with Transco CLSG.”
President Boakai thanked the delegation for their visit and emphasized Liberia’s ongoing interest in regional energy cooperation. He praised the initiative as evidence of African nations managing essential infrastructure projects for their own benefit. President Boakai said: “It is encouraging to see Africans taking charge of such an important sector to serve their own countries,” adding that “My Government remains committed to supporting the CLSG’s continued growth and success.”
Other officials attending included Samuel A. Stevquoah, Minister of State for Presidential Affairs, and Eudora Blay-Pritchard, Acting Minister of Mines and Energy.
