President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. hosted a New Year’s Reception for members of the Diplomatic and Consular Corps as well as Liberia’s development partners on February 20, 2026, at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia. The event brought together ambassadors, heads of missions, representatives from international organizations, and senior government officials to reinforce partnerships and cooperation.

During his address, President Boakai highlighted Liberia’s commitment to strengthening both bilateral and multilateral relations. He described the occasion as an opportunity for reflection and renewal of longstanding partnerships that have contributed to Liberia’s democratic progress and development.

The president recalled Liberia’s diplomatic history, including its involvement with the League of Nations, its status as a founding signatory of the United Nations, and participation in establishing continental cooperation frameworks in Africa.

He expressed appreciation for the continued support from the Diplomatic and Consular Corps during difficult times. “Whether we know it or not, we are all human, and we are very grateful for what you bring to our country — the friendship, the interest you pay in what we do. We want to say thank you and let you know that we value your presence in our country,” President Boakai stated.

Boakai also acknowledged Liberia’s development partners for supporting the nation through its transition from conflict to peace and ongoing efforts toward sustainable development. He noted that despite global economic challenges over the past year, Liberia benefited from international cooperation.

He commended the Diplomatic and Consular Corps for their role in supporting Liberia’s recent election to a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council. The president assured that Liberia would approach this responsibility with humility and dedication to global peace.

Addressing current global issues such as geopolitical competition, economic instability, climate change, and technological advancements, President Boakai stressed diplomacy based on mutual respect and tangible benefits for citizens.

He outlined his administration’s focus areas: trade and investment expansion, energy transition initiatives, digital innovation growth, food security improvements, and human capital development.

The president reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to regional integration through ECOWAS (Economic Community of West African States), Mano River Union, and African Union. He emphasized that stability in West Africa is crucial for collective advancement.

Boakai thanked bilateral and regional partners for their contributions across sectors such as peacebuilding, governance improvement, human rights promotion, gender equity advancement, environmental sustainability efforts, infrastructure projects, education enhancement programs, healthcare improvements, and private sector support.

He pointed out that effective diplomacy is measured by positive changes experienced by citizens—better schools, stronger health clinics, more economic opportunities—and not only by signed agreements.

President Boakai recognized Sweden’s long-term partnership with Liberia. He also extended gratitude to diplomats completing their assignments in Liberia: “On behalf of the Government and people of Liberia,” he said at the conclusion of his remarks,“I thank you for your genuine friendship , your solidarity ,and your continued partnership in advancing Liberia ’s progress.”

The Executive Mansion serves as both residence and workplace for Liberia’s president. It is located in Monrovia and functions as part of the executive branch. As a symbol of national leadership it hosts state functions like this reception while providing public information about presidential activities to promote transparency.
