President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has left Liberia to attend the West Africa Economic Summit (WAES) in Abuja, Nigeria. The summit will take place from June 20 to 21, 2025, and aims to bring together leaders from across the region to discuss strategies for trade, investment, and regional integration.

During the event, President Boakai is expected to speak about Liberia’s economic transformation plans and highlight investment opportunities in sectors such as agriculture, energy, infrastructure, tourism, and digital innovation. He will also engage in bilateral and multilateral meetings with other regional leaders and investors.

The WAES was organized following a commitment by Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu during his ECOWAS chairmanship in 2023. The forum will conclude with the ECOWAS Summit of Heads of State on June 22.

Accompanying President Boakai is a delegation that includes several key Liberian officials such as Minister of Foreign Affairs Mme. Sara Beysolow Nyanti and Minister of Finance Augustine Kpehe Ngafuan among others.

While President Boakai is attending the summit, Justice Minister Cllr. Oswald Tweh will oversee national governance in consultation with him via telephone. The president is scheduled to return to Liberia on June 23.
