President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. of Liberia is in New York to participate in the 80th anniversary commemoration of the United Nations. The event brought together world leaders and UN officials in the General Assembly Hall to reflect on the organization’s eight decades of work and to discuss the need for stronger cooperation in addressing current global challenges.

After the main celebration, President Boakai and his delegation joined the High-level Meeting on the 30th Anniversary of the Fourth World Conference on Women, which reviewed progress and ongoing challenges in advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment since the adoption of the Beijing Declaration.

A special reception will be hosted by United States President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump for attending Heads of State at this year’s United Nations General Assembly.

The Liberian delegation will also attend several other important events, such as meetings organized by the European Corporate Council on Africa and the Middle East (ECAM Council), a dialogue on critical minerals hosted by The ONE Campaign and The Africa Center, and discussions during the Sustainable Development Goal Moment 2025. These activities are part of Liberia’s efforts to build international partnerships, support sustainable development, and advocate for African interests globally.

President Boakai stated: “Liberia remains steadfast in its support of the United Nations and is committed to working with the international community in pursuit of peace, equality, and shared prosperity.”
