Liberian President Joseph Nyuma Boakai Sr. is participating in the 39th Ordinary Session of the Assembly of Heads of State and Government of the African Union (AU) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The summit began with a ceremonial opening session and continues with closed-door meetings among African leaders.
President Boakai leads a high-level Liberian delegation at the two-day assembly, where leaders are discussing key issues such as peace and security, water and sanitation, public health, energy access, democratic governance, regional integration, food security, and Agenda 2063—the continent’s long-term development framework.
Ahead of the summit’s official opening, President Boakai reviewed policy documents and briefing materials for thematic sessions. He also met separately with Dr. Abdullah Almusaibeeh, President of the Arab Bank for Economic Development in Africa (BADEA), and Mr. Mame Mandiaye Niang, Acting Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC). Their discussions focused on Liberia’s development priorities and strengthening international partnerships within multilateral frameworks.
Other senior members of Liberia’s delegation attended thematic sessions prior to the main event. Summit proceedings are being held behind closed doors as leaders address various policy and strategic issues important to Africa.
The participation of President Boakai highlights Liberia’s renewed commitment to constructive engagement on continental matters. According to its official website, the Executive Mansion of Liberia serves as both the residence and workplace for the president in Monrovia and plays a role in national leadership by hosting state functions and providing information on presidential events. The Executive Mansion also contributes to transparency by sharing news updates about governance initiatives with citizens through its official platform.
“The participation of President Boakai underscores Liberia’s renewed commitment to constructive engagement, regional solidarity, and the promotion of shared continental solutions to common challenges.”
