President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. has announced new appointments to several key government institutions in Liberia, focusing on technical and vocational education as well as the aviation sector.
At the Tappita Technical Vocational Training Institute (TVTI), Dr. Yar D. Gonway-Gono has been named President, with Mr. Menleby Towah taking the role of Vice President for Academic Affairs and Mr. Ebenezer Strother as Vice President for Administration. The board of TVTI has also been constituted with members representing various sectors including local government, civil society, religious community, and education.
The appointees to the TVTI board are: Mr. Cyril Lurlay (Chairman), Mr. Takpor Nuahn (Co-Chair), Dr. Yah Gono (Secretary), Senator Nyan Twayan from the Liberian Senate, Honorable Dorwohn Twain Gleekia as District Representative, Pastor Ruth Strother Morris representing the religious community, Madam Margret Karmaw Gonkewon from the District Education Board, Mr. Keiba Tuazama for the Faculty Association, Mr. Rufus Yarmie for Civil Society, and Mr. Karlewoe Dahn from Local Government Structure.
Regarding Booker Washington Institute (BWI), President Boakai has reappointed all existing board members so they can complete their current terms after previously dissolving several boards in October 2025 for restructuring purposes. Additionally, Mr. Emmanuel Lawrence was appointed as Representative of the Visitor on BWI’s Board to reinforce governance at this leading technical institution.
In Liberia’s aviation sector, Mr. Abner Wanah Yorly, Sr., has been appointed Port Manager at James Spriggs Payne Airport in Monrovia. According to the announcement, “Mr. Yorly comes highly recommended.” He brings a background in air safety investigation and cyber-security related to aviation systems and is recognized for his service as a retired U.S Army Sergeant supporting aviation programs as well as his historic solo transatlantic flight.
President Boakai called on all new appointees to perform their duties “with diligence, integrity, and professionalism in support of national development and the collective aspirations of the Liberian people.”
