Bo City, April 18, 2025 – President of Sierra Leone, Julius Maada Bio, attended the annual Speech Day and Prize-Giving Ceremony at his alma mater, Bo Government Secondary School, known as Bo School. The event, organized by the Old Bo Boys Association (OBBA), gathered various members of the Sierra Leone community, including students, educators, traditional leaders, alumni, diplomats, and citizens.
President Bio’s presence held significant personal meaning, as he reflected on the impact of Bo School on his character, discipline, and leadership journey. “I will never get tired of attending Bo School activities,” he stated. He emphasized the importance of human capital development as a central goal of his administration, drawing on his own experience from Bo School to the presidency. “I chose human capital development because I believe in creating opportunities for every child. It doesn’t matter where they come from; every child deserves the chance to gain knowledge and succeed,” he affirmed.
He further acknowledged Bo School’s role in fostering national cohesion and academic excellence. “Bo School is not just an institution; it is a family,” said the President. He praised the school’s advancements in technology and its focus on Information and Communication Technology (ICT), urging students to adopt digital tools to succeed globally.
The President also commended First Lady Mrs. Fatima Bio for her commitment to protecting girls through the “Hands Off Our Girls” campaign. He encouraged students, particularly boys, to support the empowerment of women and girls, noting, “the future will be bright when we bring women and children along and support them.”
Chinese Ambassador Wang Qing, the Guest of Honour, acknowledged the event’s reflection of the Bo School community’s unity and strength. He highlighted the China-Sierra Leone educational cooperation and revealed that the China Ambassador’s Scholarship Programme benefited 20 Bo School pupils last year. Ambassador Wang expressed hope for a growing relationship between China and Bo School.
Mr. Kosia Micheal S., Bo School’s Acting Principal, thanked the dignitaries for their support and provided updates on the school’s management, examination performance, and infrastructure projects.
