President Adama Barrow received the Honourable Minister for Petroleum and Energy, Mr. Nani Juwara, and the Managing Director of NAWEC, Mr. Gallo Saidy, along with their teams as a follow-up to the Presidential delivery forum held in March.

The second quarter of the delivery forum aims to review project implementation, address challenges, and determine how the Office of the President could provide guidance moving forward.

Honourable Juwara assured President Barrow that most projects are progressing but highlighted some challenges. He emphasized that they are collaborating with consultants and contractors to meet the Universal Access to Electricity deadline by the end of 2025.

Acknowledging these challenges, President Barrow encouraged them to strive to fulfill their promise of achieving nationwide electricity access by the end of 2025. The project is intended to improve the lives and livelihoods of Gambians.

Speaking to the media, NAWEC Managing Director Mr. Saidy mentioned that some challenges stem from external issues related to obtaining materials from abroad. He also acknowledged water and power outages in the Greater Banjul Area and urged Gambians to remain patient as ongoing projects aim to resolve these issues.

Minister Juwara stated that his Ministry and NAWEC are working on projects to expand electricity supply to 800 communities currently without electricity. He added that most projects are on track and in various stages of implementation.

Honourable Juwara also revealed ongoing interventions aimed at improving water supply within Greater Banjul Area. He expressed gratitude towards President Barrow for the opportunity and reassured him of close collaboration with other sectors to ensure timely project delivery.
