Several heads of state, including President Adama Barrow, attended the inauguration of Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama on January 7, 2025. The event marked the beginning of Mahama’s second term as the fourth president of Ghana.

President Barrow’s presence at the ceremony highlights his commitment to fostering regional peace and stability, as well as promoting trade and economic development.

In his inaugural address, President Mahama outlined his administration’s focus on four key areas: economic restoration and stabilization of the macro-economic environment, improvement of the business sector, good governance and constitutional reform, accountability, and combating corruption.

Mahama expressed gratitude to former President Nana Akufo-Addo for ensuring a peaceful transition of power. He also thanked visiting dignitaries for their attendance, emphasizing shared democratic values and the rule of law. Following the ceremony, he hosted a luncheon for his counterparts and delegation representatives.

Mahama’s victory represents a significant moment in West Africa’s democracy. He succeeds outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo, who served for eight years. Alongside Mahama, Prof. Jane Opoku-Agyemang was sworn in as Ghana’s first female vice president.

The inauguration was attended by several notable leaders including Presidents Bola Ahmed Tinubu of Nigeria, Paul Kagame of Rwanda, Bassirou Diomaye Faye of Senegal, Mamady Doumbouya of Guinea, William Ruto of Kenya, Ibrahim Traore of Burkina Faso, Brice Oligui Nguema of Gabon, and Felix Tshisekedi from the Democratic Republic of Congo.
