President of the Republic of The Gambia, Adama Barrow, delivered a message to the nation marking the end of Ramadan, which will culminate in the celebration of Eid ul-Fitr. The president expressed gratitude, stating, “In appreciation of the blessings and mercies showered upon us, I thank and praise the Almighty God for peacefully living through this blessed month again.”

Reflecting on the essence of Ramadan, President Barrow emphasized, “Every year, Muslims look forward to Ramadan to repent and piously engage in acts of worship and good deeds.” He acknowledged similar devotion in the Christian community during Lent, extending his respects and prayers for their well-being.

As the nation prepares for Eid ul-Fitr, locally known as Koriteh, Barrow extended congratulations to the Muslim community and highlighted the importance of religious and social values, emphasizing that these align with the nation’s democratic principles. “These religious values perfectly match both the social values we share and the democratic principles expressed in our Constitution and practise in our governance procedures,” he noted.

President Barrow spoke about the trials and hardships of life, underscoring the resilience needed to overcome challenges. “Fasting teaches us that life comes with trials and hardship, such as hunger and poverty,” he stated. He assured citizens of initiatives to address global economic challenges and their impacts on The Gambia.

The president emphasized the importance of inter-faith solidarity within the country, a model he hopes will be emulated elsewhere. He also called for political tolerance, addressing it as a global threat to peace and urging all to unite for national development.

In his message, Barrow commended efforts to make basic commodities available but urged businesses to be more considerate of national development needs. “Being considerate in business is a patriotic way of not only easing living conditions but also contributing to national development,” he remarked.

Encouraging agricultural engagement, President Barrow called on Gambians to take up farming, highlighting its role in reducing dependency on foreign goods. He promised government support for increasing industrial production and energy availability in the country.

Concluding his message, Barrow assured residents of The Gambia of a safe environment for business and residency. He reiterated his commitment to the well-being of all citizens and residents. Extending festivities, he said, “Once again, I congratulate you all on the feast of Eid ul-Fitr. May Allah grant us the blessings and many happy returns of Ramadan and the Eid.”

President Barrow’s address reinforced national unity and development as the nation observes this significant religious celebration.
