Online conference to explore diverse aspects of St Helena’s environment

The St Helena Research Institute (SHRI) and the University of Manchester have announced a free online conference titled “St Helena: A Unique Environment, A Rich Tapestry.” The event is scheduled for Wednesday, November 27, and Thursday, November 28, 2024.

This two-day conference will gather researchers and scientists from St Helena, those who have conducted remote research on or around the island, and individuals interested in its history and environment. The event aims to provide an opportunity for networking, exploring research impact, and discussing its application for the sustainable development of St Helena.

Topics to be covered include:

– Natural Sciences: Exploring St Helena’s biodiversity
– Humanities and Social Sciences: Uncovering the island’s colonial history, its role in the slave trade, and more recent society and culture
– Medical Science: Discussing health issues related to St Helena’s aging population
– Cross-disciplinary Approaches for St Helena’s future
