Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, has stated that the country’s economic transformation depends on responsible and visionary leadership. He made these remarks at the Oxford Global Think Tank Leadership Conference in Abuja, which focused on the theme “Better Leadership for a Better Nigeria.”

Edun praised Arumah Oteh for organizing an event that invests in developing future leaders. He said leadership development is crucial to achieving stability, innovation, and long-term prosperity.

“Our economic future rests on leadership that listens, learns, and leads with purpose — ensuring that every reform delivers growth and opportunity,” Edun said.

He pointed to current government initiatives such as digital cash transfers to 8.1 million Nigerians—aiming to reach 15 million—and the Ward-Based Development Programme. This program supports small businesses and productivity at the community level across more than 8,000 wards nationwide.

Edun explained that these programs are examples of how leadership can turn policy into real-world results. He also stressed that macroeconomic stability, fiscal transparency, and inclusive development remain priorities for the administration.

“With responsible leadership and continued reform, Nigeria is well positioned for sustainable growth that benefits citizens and strengthens private sector confidence,” he added.

Edun commended Ms. Oteh and the Oxford Global Think Tank for encouraging dialogue aimed at building a more resilient economy in Nigeria.
