The Federal Government of Nigeria is reassessing its economic strategy, as the Economic Management Team (EMT) met to evaluate the country’s trade and investment priorities. The meeting was led by Mr. Wale Edun, the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, in Abuja.

During the session, Dr. Jumoke Oduwole, Honourable Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, presented her ministry’s focus areas. These include enhancing investor retention, boosting export diversification, and addressing regulatory challenges that impede private sector growth.

A significant topic was Nigeria’s ongoing dialogue with the United States after a proposal by the U.S. Trade Representative to levy a 14% tariff on Nigerian exports. The EMT examined this issue’s legal and commercial aspects alongside Nigeria’s diplomatic efforts in Washington and discussions at the U.S.-Africa CEO Forum in Abidjan.

Senator Said Alkali, Honourable Minister of Transportation, also shared his ministry’s updated budget framework and infrastructure plans aimed at improving logistics and trade facilitation.

The EMT expressed commitment to implementing transparent reforms to support private sector growth, increase non-oil exports, and achieve sustainable economic development.

Mr. Wale Edun highlighted the importance of cross-ministerial coordination: “Now is the time for unified action. By aligning our trade posture with global best practice and ensuring policy consistency, we can unlock greater opportunities for businesses and deepen investor confidence in Nigeria.”

Nigeria aims for a brighter economic future through unified actions and coordinated policy reforms.
