In Sevilla, Spain, Nigeria’s Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, emphasized the need for fiscal reform and international cooperation at the 4th International Conference on Financing for Development (FFD4). Speaking at a roundtable focused on domestic public resource mobilization, Edun called for a rebalancing of global finance to align more closely with the realities faced by developing economies.
Edun highlighted Nigeria’s efforts to improve tax administration and drive fiscal discipline while creating an environment conducive to private sector investment. “In today’s evolving global landscape, self-reliance is essential. We are prioritizing digital infrastructure, transparency, and institutional reform to deliver more for Nigerians with every naira spent,” he stated.
The minister also underscored the urgent need for stronger international collaboration in areas such as tax fairness and illicit financial flows—challenges that African economies continue to face.
The event gathered senior officials from various international organizations including the United Nations, OECD, EU, development banks, and finance ministers from countries like Nepal, Malawi, and Uruguay.
Edun’s message at the UN Finance Summit reflects Nigeria’s ongoing commitment to achieving sustainable economic growth and development for its citizens.
