New officials take oath as President Bio emphasizes urgency

State House, Freetown – President Julius Maada Bio has administered the oath of office to several newly appointed officials. The ceremony took place at State House following their parliamentary approval. The appointees include Mr. Morie Lengor Esq., Minister of Internal Affairs; Mr. Emmanuel K. Amara, Chairman of the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC); Mr. Ibrahim Jalloh, North East Resident Minister; and Mr. John Abu, South Region Resident Minister.

John Sumaila, Secretary to the Cabinet and Head of the Civil Service, informed President Bio that due diligence had been conducted and Parliament had unanimously approved the appointees based on His Excellency’s advice. This process aligns with Section 57 of the Constitution of Sierra Leone, Act No. 6 of 1991.

Dr. Emmanuel Ngaima, Secretary to the President, administered the oath to Mr. Emmanuel K. Amara under Section 5(3) of the Political Parties Act, No. 25 of 2002, which requires PPRC members to subscribe to an oath before assuming office.

Mr. Morie Lengor Esq., speaking on behalf of all appointees, expressed gratitude for the trust placed in them by President Bio and thanked Members of Parliament for their approval process.

“We understand the magnitude of the responsibilities entrusted to us and are aware of the high expectations of the people,” said Mr. Lengor.

President Bio congratulated the appointees and emphasized their urgent tasks ahead: “As a developing nation, we are far behind… They expect miracles… I will do what is humanly possible to move this country forward.”

He urged them to work diligently on maintaining peace and addressing security issues: “Hard work is the only way forward… The responsibility is ours.”

Additionally, President Bio presided over a swearing-in ceremony for Chief Justice Mr. Komba Kamanda Esq., further solidifying recent appointments within his administration.
