Ghana’s Ministry of Finance has announced plans to create an Independent Fiscal Council aimed at strengthening economic oversight following the country’s exit from the International Monetary Fund (IMF) program. The news was shared by the Deputy Finance Minister on social media.

On February 11, 2026, the Ministry posted: “Ghana to Establish Independent Fiscal Council to Strengthen Post-IMF Economic Oversight–Deputy Finance Minister

Subsequent posts on February 12, 2026 included two links without additional commentary: “https://t.co/NNsiqgvw3B” and “https://t.co/0duGx39pqB”.

The announcement comes as Ghana prepares for a transition period after completing its engagement with the IMF. The establishment of an independent fiscal body is intended to provide greater transparency and accountability in managing public finances, which is a common recommendation for countries exiting IMF programs. Such councils typically offer non-partisan analysis and monitoring of government fiscal policies.

This move follows recent efforts by Ghanaian authorities to reinforce economic governance and ensure long-term fiscal sustainability as part of broader reforms initiated during their participation in IMF-supported programs.
