Ministry of Finance Ghana announces border control measures and addresses Auditor-General’s report

The Ministry of Finance, Ghana, has issued several public statements regarding fiscal policy and government financial oversight. On March 9, 2026, the Ministry posted that the Finance Minister had directed a ban on land transit of selected goods to protect national revenue. The following day, March 10, 2026, the Ministry released two statements concerning the Auditor-General’s report on arrears and payments as at the end of 2024.

On March 10, 2026, two posts addressed the Auditor-General’s findings. The first stated: “STATEMENT ON THE REPORT OF THE AUDITOR-GENERAL ON AREARS AND PAYMENTS AS AT END 2024. https://t.co/ki99R8mWC8”. Shortly after, another post reiterated: “STATEMENT ON THE REPORT OF THE AUDITOR-GENERAL ON AREARS AND PAYMENTS AS AT END 2024. https://t.co/3ituQtYVHY”.

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson serves as Ghana’s Minister for Finance and is responsible for fiscal policy decisions including directives to government agencies such as the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA). The GRA is tasked with collecting taxes and protecting government revenue through various enforcement actions at national borders.

The Auditor-General in Ghana conducts annual reviews of public accounts and provides reports on arrears and payments by government entities at year-end. These reports are intended to promote transparency in public finance management.
