The Emergency Planning Department has issued a reminder regarding the locations of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) across the island. These devices are critical in emergencies, as they deliver a safe electric shock to help restore a normal heartbeat during cardiac arrest.

An AED, also known as a defibrillator or Public Access Defibrillator (PAD), can significantly improve survival rates if used within the first few minutes of cardiac arrest. The AED models placed around the island are designed for use by anyone, requiring no specialized training. They guide the user with voice commands to ensure safe operation.

For emergency access to an AED, individuals can obtain the cabinet code by contacting the Emergency Control Centre at 999.

The AEDs are distributed at various key locations:

– Half Tree Hollow: Outside the main entrance of Half Tree Hollow Clinic
– St Paul’s: The Pavilion Area, in the green shed, at Francis Plain
– Levelwood: Outside Silver Hill Shop
– Blue Hill: Outside Blue Hill Community Centre
– Sandy Bay: Outside Bamboo Hedge Shop
– Rupert’s: Outside the main entrance of Sea Rescue Building
– Longwood: Outside the Royal St Helena Police Post
– Jamestown: Near the entrance to the Immigration office at the Customs Building

Additional AED units in Jamestown are located at the Royal Saint Helena Police (RSHP) Headquarters reception and at HM Prison. All AED locations are clearly signposted and housed in bright yellow boxes, as highlighted in the accompanying image.
