His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., President of the Republic of Liberia, has signed three executive orders to promote national development. The orders aim to boost economic growth, enhance infrastructure, and support state-owned enterprises.

The first, Executive Order No. 138, renews tax exemptions for the Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC). This includes exemptions from customs duties and Goods and Services Tax on essential equipment, materials, vehicles, and fuel costs. The goal is to provide affordable electricity and support LEC’s transition to hydroelectric power.

Executive Order No. 139 addresses high tariffs on agricultural inputs by suspending tariffs on these products. This order seeks to increase access to affordable agricultural inputs for farmers, promoting commercial agriculture and boosting productivity. The Ministry of Finance and Development Planning will work with the Ministry of Agriculture to streamline the tax exemption process.

The third order, Executive Order No. 140, exempts customs duties on materials needed for two major projects by the Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC): a Premium Motor Spirit Tank and a modern laboratory. These projects aim to improve fuel security and enable local petroleum-related testing.

President Boakai emphasized his commitment to supporting energy, agriculture, and petroleum sectors as part of Liberia’s development strategy. “Our focus is on supporting critical sectors—energy, agriculture, and petroleum—to drive Liberia’s development and improve the quality of life for all citizens,” he stated.

He encouraged stakeholders and the public to support these measures for national reconstruction and long-term prosperity.
