President Joseph Nyuma Boakai of Liberia has expressed his condolences to the family of the late former Vice President John D. Gray. The announcement follows the passing of Mr. Gray on November 28, 2024, after an illness in Monrovia.

Mr. Gray was a prominent figure from Grand Cape Mount County and served as a Deacon at Effort Baptist Church in Paynesville. His political career included a brief tenure as Vice President of Liberia when he assumed office following Moses Zeh Blah’s ascension to the presidency after Charles M. Taylor’s resignation in August 2003. The administration lasted for two months.

In his message to Mrs. Laysiah Gray, Mrs. Johnetts Zoe Gray, and the rest of the Gray family, President Boakai recognized Mr. Gray’s contributions both as a Senator for his county and as Vice President for the nation.

“President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr., has extended his deepest condolences to the Widow of Mr. John D. Gray, Mrs. Laysiah Gray, Daughter, Mrs. Johnetts Zoe Gray, and the Gray Family on the sad news of the passing of the prominent Son of Grand Cape Mount County.”

“In his condolence message to the Gray Family and the people of Cape Mount County, the Liberian Leader acknowledged services rendered by the late Honorable Gray in the cause of his County, which he served as Senator, and the nation, as Vice President.”
