President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. of Liberia has accepted the resignation of Amin Modad, who served as the Minister of Commerce & Industry. The resignation comes after concerns arose regarding a vehicle procurement that exceeded the government’s estimated cost for ministerial transportation.
In his statement, President Boakai acknowledged Mr. Modad’s contributions to the Ministry but criticized the decision to purchase the vehicle, citing it as “poor judgment and a lack of sensitivity to the current economic environment in the country.”
The President has ordered that the vehicle be transferred to the General Services Agency (GSA) for use in accommodating VIP guests of the government. This move aligns with Liberia’s commitment to “upholding transparency, accountability, and prudent resource management in all sectors of public service.”
Deputy Minister for Administration Scholastica Tanneh Nyenkan-Nimely will act as interim minister until a permanent replacement is appointed.
