Liberia receives new ambassadors from Congo, Venezuela, Indonesia & Slovakia at Executive Mansion

Four newly designated ambassadors presented their credentials to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. at the Executive Mansion in Monrovia on February 18, 2026. The ceremony marked the formal beginning of their diplomatic assignments in Liberia.

The ambassadors included Gaston Gakosso from the Republic of Congo, Alberto Efrain Castelar Padilla from Venezuela, Bambang Suharto from Indonesia, and Martin Podstavek from Slovakia.

President Boakai welcomed the diplomats and accepted their credentials on behalf of Liberia’s government and people. He described the event as “a renewed chapter in Liberia’s enduring partnerships, grounded in mutual respect, shared values, and a commitment to peace, development, and international cooperation.”

Ambassador Gaston Gakosso stated his country’s intention to strengthen ties with Liberia: “My Government is strongly committed to enhancing bilateral relations between Republic of the Congo and Liberia, with particular emphasis on strengthening trade and commerce, promoting investment opportunities, and fostering economic self-reliance through sustained diplomatic engagement and mutually beneficial partnerships.”

Ambassador Alberto Efrain Castelar Padilla said: “Venezuela is interested in expanding its partnership with Liberia by advancing cooperation across strategic sectors such as energy, agriculture, education, health, and cultural exchange,” adding that his government is ready “to work closely with Liberia to promote sustainable development and strengthen diplomatic and technical collaboration for the benefit of both nations.”

Indonesia’s Ambassador Bambang Suharto emphasized support for Liberian priorities: “My Government’s commitment includes supporting Liberia’s development priorities through investment in key sectors including palm oil production, infrastructure and capacity development. We will also provide technical assistance, training programs, and scholarship opportunities to enhance skills and strengthen bilateral cooperation between Indonesia and Liberia.”

Slovakia’s Ambassador Martin Podstavek highlighted his country’s interest in furthering cooperation: “We are interested in strengthening bilateral relations with Liberia—particularly advancing cooperation in trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchange—to promote mutual economic growth and deepen diplomatic ties between our two countries.”

President Boakai assured each ambassador of full support during their tenure. He expressed confidence that their service would help expand cooperation in areas such as trade, investment, education, and security.

He concluded by extending best wishes for progress to each nation represented.
