President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. of Liberia has announced the formation of a National Steering Committee to guide the country’s campaign for a non-permanent seat on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). This committee will consist of government officials, civil society leaders, and diplomatic advisors tasked with coordinating Liberia’s bid.
The committee will be chaired by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, with support from Co-Chairs including the Minister of Finance and the Minister of Internal Affairs. Other notable members are ministers from various departments such as Justice, Defense, State, Gender, Information, Culture and Tourism, Youth and Sports. Additionally, representatives from legislative committees on foreign relations and organizations like the National Civil Society Council of Liberia and the Liberia Chamber of Commerce are included.
Ambassador Lewis Brown has been appointed Secretary to oversee campaign strategy implementation.
An advisory team comprising experienced diplomats like Ambassador George Wallace and Senator Gbehzongar Findley has also been established to provide strategic guidance.
This initiative reflects Liberia’s dedication to global peace and multilateral cooperation. The Government calls for both domestic and international support in this endeavor as it aims to enhance its role in international security discussions.
