The Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) has announced that new electricity tariffs, approved by the Liberia Electricity Regulatory Commission (LERC), are now in effect for the period from January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2028.

According to the new structure, energy and fixed charges have been updated across several customer categories. For customers under the Social Tariff, the energy charge is set at $0.146 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), with no fixed monthly charge. Residential prepaid and postpaid customers will pay an energy charge of $0.246 per kWh. The fixed monthly charge for residential prepaid users is $2.24, while residential postpaid users will pay $4.245 per month.

Non-residential prepaid customers face an energy charge of $0.246 per kWh and a fixed monthly fee of $9.498. For non-residential postpaid accounts, the fixed monthly fee rises to $11.39. Medium voltage users will see an energy charge of $0.224 per kWh and a fixed monthly charge of $47.488.

New connection fees have also been adjusted under the revised tariff structure: single-phase connections cost a total of $78.40, while three-phase connections cost $380.80.

Electricity bills are composed of two main parts: an energy charge based on consumption and a fixed monthly charge intended to recover costs associated with maintaining network assets, regardless of usage level. New connection charges are separate one-time fees covering some installation costs but do not grant ownership of meters to customers.

A 12% Goods and Services Tax (GST) is applied to all applicable charges in line with national tax regulations.

Customers who qualify for the Social Tariff remain exempt from fixed charges and continue to receive subsidized rates.

LEC stated: “LEC remains committed to transparency and to providing reliable electricity services.” Customers seeking more information can contact LEC Customer Service or visit their nearest service center.
