In preparation for the legislative elections held on November 17, 2024, in Senegal, key figures from international election observation missions have engaged with local authorities and observers. Ambassador Francis Alex Tsegah, leading the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Election Observation Mission (EOM), along with Ambassador Aristide Calixte Mbari, head of the African Union (AU) EOM, convened a meeting on November 15 in Dakar. The gathering included 104 observers set to be deployed across the nation as part of a joint ECOWAS-AU initiative.

The mission heads conducted courtesy visits to several pivotal institutions: the Ministry of African Integration and Foreign Affairs, the Directorate General of Elections (DGE), and the Autonomous National Electoral Commission (CENA). These meetings allowed them to engage with senior officials regarding the logistical framework for the upcoming elections and to confirm their organizations’ dedication to fostering democratic processes in Senegal and other member states.

Both Ambassadors expressed satisfaction with Senegal’s preparations for the elections scheduled for Sunday. They praised the peaceful environment maintained throughout the electoral campaigns. “Amb. Francis Alex Tsegah and Amb. Calixte Mbari commended the Senegalese authorities’ excellent preparations for Sunday’s elections, as well as the calm that prevailed during the electoral campaigns.”

Addressing observers during their meeting, Tsegah and Mbari emphasized adherence to international standards and local laws in conducting their duties. Observers were encouraged to utilize all resources provided during their training effectively.
