GOIL PLC’s GoodEnergy football team secured the championship in the football category at the 2025 JoySports Invitational Tournament. The event took place at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, where GOIL overcame competitors including DHL, NPA, SNS, and McDan before defeating SIC Insurance in the final match.
This win marked a significant milestone for GOIL, as previous attempts had seen the team reach four semifinals without capturing the title. The achievement was credited to persistent effort and strong support from company management.
Ing. Joshua Kwabena Duodu, Head of Technical & Special Products at GOIL PLC, encouraged players before the tournament began to represent teamwork, innovation, and resilience. He assured them of continued management backing.
Team captain Nana Kwesi spoke to JoySports following their victory: “The massive endorsement and support from management, led by Group CEO Edward Abambire Bawa, inspired us throughout the tournament. The leadership and enthusiasm shown in steering the GOIL brand to positive results over the past few months was something we looked up to. We couldn’t afford to fail this time,” he explained.
On August 25th, 2025, Team GOIL presented the trophy to Group CEO/Managing Director Edward Abambire Bawa at company headquarters. Mr. Bawa commended their performance: he praised their teamwork and embodiment of the GoodEnergy brand on and off the field while expressing gratitude for making the company proud.
In addition to football, GOIL participated in other events at this year’s JoySports Invitational—which featured 49 corporate organizations competing across 15 sports—and achieved second place in female athletics as well as a semifinal appearance in swimming.
The post-tournament celebrations highlighted not only sporting achievements but also what company leaders described as a culture of unity and resilience within GOIL.
