The Group Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director of GOIL PLC, Edward Abambire Bawa, visited Inspector-General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohuno at the Ghana Police Service Headquarters. The meeting aimed to review and enhance the partnership between GOIL and the police, focusing on supporting security operations and national development.
COP Dr. Ernest Kwabena Owusu, Director-General in charge of General Services, described the relationship as cordial and strong. He noted that GOIL has continued supplying fuel to the police even during difficult times and currently serves most police formations across Ghana, except some newly created regions. Dr. Owusu mentioned that several regional commands have requested more fuel to meet operational needs and said these requests would be formally communicated to GOIL. He also acknowledged existing implementation challenges and called for improved coordination.
Inspector-General Yohuno welcomed the meeting, highlighting the importance of fuel for police operations and visibility at the community level. He emphasized the need for an increased and reliable supply. “He underscored the critical role of fuel in police operations and visibility, particularly at the community level, and expressed the need for increased and seamless supply.” Yohuno suggested that GOIL work with state agencies to build fuel storage facilities in remote areas, especially in new regions. He also pointed out that new operational vehicles had been delivered to the service—including over one hundred pickup trucks and armored vehicles—and their effective use depends on a steady fuel supply. He thanked GOIL’s leadership for its ongoing support.
Edward Abambire Bawa reaffirmed GOIL’s commitment to national security operations: “He assured the Police Service that GOIL would work closely with Police Headquarters and the National Petroleum Authority (NPA) to fast-track processes and address implementation challenges in a manner that balances efficiency, accountability, and security considerations.”
COP Iddi Seidu Lansah suggested extending cooperation to include support for marine patrols along Ghana’s coastlines by providing bunkering services for marine police units stationed in Takoradi and Tema.
GOIL’s delegation included Chief Operating Officer Dr. Marcus Deo Dake; Head of Corporate Affairs Robert Kyere; Head of Operations Ing. Denis Nii-Komiete Amui; along with other senior officials. Members from the IGP’s management team were also present.
The visit reaffirmed both organizations’ shared commitment to public safety, security, and national development through strengthened collaboration.
