The GIABA Ministerial Committee held its second extraordinary meeting in Accra, Ghana, concluding on July 19, 2025. The committee decided to allow three Sahel countries that have withdrawn from the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) to join the Inter-Governmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA) as non-ECOWAS members.

Ministers at the high-level meeting unanimously emphasized the importance of addressing regional insecurity collaboratively. This decision will be forwarded to the ECOWAS Council of Ministers and the Authority of Heads of State and Government for consideration.

During the session, Nigeria’s Minister of Justice transferred the chairmanship of the GMC to Sierra Leone’s Minister of Finance, who now serves as the new Chair of the Committee.

The Vice President of Ghana, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, officially opened the meeting.
