The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has called on tax officials to take a more active role in revenue collection as part of efforts to improve domestic revenue mobilisation. During a meeting with staff at the Legon Tax Service Centre, Dr. Forson emphasized that relying on taxpayers to come forward voluntarily is not sufficient.

“Revenue must not depend on waiting for taxpayers to walk into our offices,” he said.

He encouraged tax officers to be proactive in their duties by engaging with taxpayers and enforcing compliance. “We must go out, engage, enforce compliance, and collect what is due to the state,” Dr. Forson stated.

Dr. Forson highlighted the importance of taking responsibility for meeting targets and expanding the tax base. He linked these efforts directly to national development goals, saying, “Ghana needs the revenue, and the work you do is critical to funding public services and driving national development.”

He concluded by expressing optimism about future outcomes if staff remain dedicated. “With focus, discipline, and commitment, we can mobilise the resources required to support growth, deliver essential services, and secure a stronger future for our country.”
