The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, visited Takoradi to inspect the Market Circle redevelopment project, which has been left unfinished for three years. The visit comes just days before the presentation of the 2026 Budget Statement scheduled for November 13, 2025.
Dr. Forson described the site as important to many traders and families in the area. He stated, “the Market Circle project has been captured as a priority project of government, and work will resume next year.” He also called the project a symbol of Takoradi’s economic resilience and gave assurances about the government’s commitment to its completion.
According to Dr. Forson, construction is expected to restart early next year after ongoing debt restructuring efforts are completed. This would allow for progress on reviving the stalled development.
During his inspection, Dr. Forson was joined by Deputy Finance Minister Thomas Nyarko Ampem, Western Regional Minister Joe Nelson, and Fredrick Faustinus Faidoo, Metropolitan Chief Executive of Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolitan Assembly.
The Market Circle redevelopment aims to modernize one of Ghana’s oldest trading centers. When finished, it is expected to improve sanitation conditions, reduce congestion, and boost economic activity throughout the Western Region.
